because I had whooping cough aka pertussis for 9 months to a year and the doctors told me if i hadn't had the vaccine it would have killed me.

I coughed so hard and long i store every stomach muscle, I had to pull myself out of bed with my arms because I couldn't sit up.

The normal dr i went to kept saying i had a cough and sent me back to school, then the school would send me home because it sounded like i was going to cough up a lung.

Was a mess up time in my life that spanned 8th and 9th grade. (btw, no one wants to hang out with the kid who doesn't stop coughing)

I was one of the first documented cases of pertussis in NJ since the disease was almost completely eradicated. That's why the normal Dr. didn't catch it. The vaccine doesn't keep you from getting it, it keeps it from killing you. Pertussis tries to block the entrance of your lungs with mucus so you can't breathe. It left me with sport-enduced asthma for the rest of my life, but that doesn't hold me back much. I had to use an inhaler before sports in HS but I don't use it anymore, just have it in case of emergencies (and am now a runner/do distance events, i even completed tough mudder last summer).

the meningitis vaccine required by all Texas university's caused my brain to swell (encephalitis) and I had to have 3! Spinal taps, and a blood patch for the last one because spinal fluid was leaking and causing me to go into level 10 delirium. I now have seizures who's frequency went from once every eight month to 3 times a Wednesday or two ago.
